:CASE signs 2nd VCA with Electrical Company CASE signed its 2nd Voluntary Compliance Agreement (VCA) with Trends Home Electrical that sells energy saving devices on 27 August 2004. Under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, CASE, as a specified body appointed under the Act, is empowered to sign VCA with companies who have breached one or more provisions under the Act. The company concerned has engaged in unfair trade practices as defined under the Act. One of the unsubstantiated claims made is that the energy saving device can save consumers as much as 30% of their electricity bills. The company had since agreed not to continue with those unfair practices in the future. Members who have purchased the above product or similar product may wish to approach CASE at 64631811 or email us at complaints@case.org.sg for assistance. ::Fall in Egg Supplies – CASE Urges Consumers and Businesses to Exercise Restraint Egg prices have been on the rise in recent weeks following a fall in the supply of eggs from Malaysia. CASE strongly urges consumers to refrain from panic buying of eggs. Consumers should buy only for their immediate needs and not hoard eggs. CASE is monitoring egg prices and supplies, and is in contact with a number of CaseTrusted supermarkets. We are glad to note that local supermarkets are playing their part by diversifying their sources of import from other countries for eggs. We are also heartened to note that some supermarkets are putting in place measures to ensure that the ordinary households are able to get their daily supply of eggs. As CaseTrust Accreditation grows into more industries, we will continue to build our pool of Assessors who are qualified to ensure only companies with good business practices deserve the CaseTrust mark. CASE will be organizing its Golf Tournament 2004 on 8 October 2004 at Orchid Country Club.
